Science

At Sunripe Certified Brands, we believe that good produce is a result of farming practices that prioritize good science. This is why we follow the experts when it comes to how we grow tomatoes.

Bed Geometry

One of our greatest scientific efforts has been the incorporation of bed geometry into our farming practices. This unique process involves growing crops on compact, raised soil beds with plastic much, and the results are phenomenal. We have significantly reduced the total amount of water and fumigants used on our farms. Moreover, these compacted beds have also allowed us to fit more beds in our fields, increasing not only our yields, but also the quality of them!

Recycled Materials

Good science has also helped us identify areas where we can improve. When it comes to packaging, our boxes are composed of recycled materials, and our plastic is PET, which means it can be easily recycled after use. These minor adjustments contribute to a greater effort of doing the right thing for our environment with sustainable farming efforts.

Fiberglass Stakes

Another effort we’ve made to prioritize science in our farming practices has been the elimination of disposable stakes. For many years, we’ve wooden stakes with every yield, which would frequently need to be replaced. This would involve chopping down and later replacing trees in Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Honduras—a timely and costly process. Instead, we now use fiberglass stakes that can be recycled for 15-20 years of tomato tomatoes that in exchange smart farming was switching from disposable stakes to reusables.

Custom Fertilizer

There is no all-in-one magic fertilizer we use on our farms. In fact, with so many different varieties, our food safety experts create custom scientifically sound fertilizers, using the best ingredients and least chemicals possible. These fertilizers ensure our tomatoes are grown to optimum quality, and they help preserve the long-term quality of our farms. Because of our choice in fertilizer, we do not have to use pest management. Nor must we use physical, biological, and/or chemical control. Most importantly however, these scientifically sound fertilizers have the added benefit of reducing the need for big corrective actions, which is sadly often necessary to save farmland on account of mistakes.
